In the tradition of Finnish sauna, the vibe at Saunawelt is a peaceful and welcoming retreat focused on relaxation, community, and wellbeing. It is designed to help you disconnect from technology and reconnect with yourself and others. We encourage a sense of shared community and welcome mindful and respectful conversation. However, we also encourage guests to "read the room." There will be occasions when people are in a more talkative mood, and other moments when guests may prefer to be left alone in quiet contemplation.
In addition to our general vibe, we offer specific experiences to suit different preferences. For a truly silent experience, join us for our Sunday Sauna Reset. We also host special events focused on social interaction, with more energetic music, a DJ or themed playlist, and a lively atmosphere that encourages conversation. For details on all our upcoming programme, please refer to our Rituals Calendar found on our website and social media.
We welcome adults aged 18 and over, and minors aged 14 and upwards when accompanied by an adult or legal guardian. The parent or legal guardian must sign the waiver and consent form before the minor uses the facilities, and proof of the minor's age may be required. Children under the age of 14 are not permitted at any time. Saunawelt reserves the right to refuse entry.
The sauna house is the perfect place for a digital detox. Please place your mobile on silent upon arrival and leave it in your locker. If you need to use your mobile, please do so quietly in the lobby or outside atrium.
Complimentary filtered water, herbal teas, and light nibbles are provided during your visit in the lounge area. Following our sustainability efforts, we encourage guests to bring a glass-free water bottle or purchase one at check-in. Cold drinks and snacks are available to purchase in our retail area, which may be enjoyed in the public outdoor seating area before or after your visit. No outside food, beverages, or alcohol are permitted in the sauna house at any time.

Yes, we operate a waitlist for sauna sessions and Special Events on a first-come, first-served basis. In the booking app, simply select the option to join the waitlist for your preferred session. It is your responsibility to remove yourself from the waitlist if it is no longer required. Please note that any additions to sessions within 24 hours of the start time cannot be altered or cancelled.
Yes — you can book multiple guests under one reservation, provided spaces are available for your chosen session. To maintain the calm, communal nature of our sauna house, we kindly ask that groups are kept to five people or fewer, as larger groups may disrupt the shared experience for other guests. Please ensure all guests check in together on arrival.
For groups of more than five, we recommend attending our social events or arranging a private hire of the sauna house. Please email hello@saunawelt.com for more information.
Arrival – Please arrive and check in at reception 15 minutes before your scheduled start time. Your sauna session begins promptly at the time of your booking. First-time guests will receive a quick tour of our facilities upon check-in.

To ensure the health, safety, and enjoyment of all our guests, we ask that you adhere to the following Code of Conduct. We reserve the right to remove anyone who does not comply with these conditions or who disrupts the experience of other guests.
-
Appropriate swimwear must be worn at all times.
-
You must shower with soap and water before using the sauna facilities.
-
Mobile phones and other electronic devices must be stored in a locker. Photography and filming are not permitted inside the sauna house.
-
Always sit on a towel in the saunas—no bare skin on wood.
-
Children aged 14 and over must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
-
Smoking, including e-cigarettes, is prohibited in the facility and outdoor spaces.
-
Please refrain from any behavior that disturbs the relaxation of other visitors.
-
Guests under the influence of alcohol, illicit or illegal drugs will be denied entry.
-
Outside food and drinks are not permitted.
-
Reserving sauna benches or lounge furniture is not allowed.
-
We expect all guests and staff to show mutual respect regarding differences in size, shape, skin colour, gender, and physical or mental abilities.
-
Saunawelt has a zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate behavior; guests engaging in any act of a sexual nature will be immediately removed from the premises.
-
Sauna etiquette is a cornerstone of the communal experience, based on widely practiced, long-established traditions that prioritize cleanliness, mutual respect, and shared wellbeing. We ask you to review our SAUNA ETIQUETTE before each visit.
As we are a co-ed facility, you must wear clean textiles at all times. We recommend choosing swimwear that maximises skin exposure and is appropriate for public spaces, as this allows you to sweat most efficiently.
Our goal is always to ensure your experience is enjoyable. If you prefer more coverage than swimwear, you may opt for loose, breathable shorts and shirts made of natural fabrics such as linen or cotton. Athletic wear is never permitted, as these garments are typically made from synthetic fabrics (like polyester, nylon, or elastane) which trap sweat and can lead to dangerous overheating. Please remember that any alternative clothing will be thoroughly soaked by the end of your session.
Sauna wraps and sarongs may be worn over your swimwear as an acceptable coverage alternative.
To make your experience as relaxing as possible, here is a list of the essentials to bring with you, along with recommendations.
-
Swimwear: Appropriate swimwear must be worn at all times as we are a co-ed facility.
-
Water Bottle: A glass-free, refillable water bottle is required to ensure proper hydration. Reusable water bottles and bottled water are also available for purchase.
-
Footwear: We are a barefoot facility, but non-slip slides or thongs are permissible for use in the facility and when accessing the outdoor lounge area. Kindly remember that all footwear is strictly prohibited inside the saunas.
-
Towel and/or Robe: We provide every guest with a pefletti (sauna seat cover) and a standard bath towel. Should you require an extra clean towel or a robe, you are welcome to bring one from home, purchase one from our retail section, or hire one from reception for a small eco fee.
-
Credit Card: A credit card is required for all purchases as we are a cashless facility.
-
Reading Material: You may wish to bring a book or magazine to read whilst relaxing. We also have a shelf where you can leave a finished book for other guests to enjoy.
Forgot something? We have water bottles, robes, towels, footwear, and other sauna-related merchandise available in our retail area.
-
-
Electronic devices: As we are a tech-free facility, all electronic devices, including mobile phones, smartwatches, e-readers, and tablets, must be left in your locker.
-
Valuables: We advise guests to leave any jewellery and other valuables at home, as Saunawelt accepts no responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged property.
-
Swimwear: Please avoid wearing swimwear with metal parts or embellishments, as these can get hot in the sauna and cause discomfort.
-
Outside food and drink: No outside food or beverages may be brought onto the premises.
-
Tobacco products: Tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, are not permissible inside the sauna house or in the outdoor relaxation lounge.

THE THERMAL CYCLE
When it comes to the sauna, there are no hard and fast rules. The experience is about learning to listen to your body and what feels good in the moment. With that in mind, our signature sauna journey—"Sauna Matka"—was developed by Helsinki-based sauna consultant Terhen. It blends global sauna traditions to guide you through a sequence of steps for deep relaxation and rejuvenation.
The sauna experience is built around the thermal cycle of heating, cooling, and resting. Following a heat session, cool down completely using one of our cold features (such as the Cool Mist Room, Cold-Water Bucket, or a cold shower), which rapidly lowers your core temperature and ensures hygiene by rinsing off sweat. Once you have relaxed with a water or tea in our lounge area, you may repeat the cycle as often as you wish.
We recommend that first-time guests start with 5 to 10 minutes in the heat and then take a break. For safety and comfort, it is not recommended to stay in the sauna for more than 20 to 25 minutes at a time. The most important rule is to listen to your body: if you feel unwell or overheated, leave the sauna immediately.
Yes, the temperature changes significantly based where you sit in the sauna as heat naturally rises. The top benches offer the hottest experience, and moving down to a lower bench or sitting on the floor will provide a lower temperature. You are always in control of your heat exposure and can also move between our different heat experiences, such as the milder Brechelbad or Aromatherapy Steam Room, to moderate your overall exposure.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Certain medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, heart issues, and diabetes, may be made worse by exposure to hot and cold environments. All guests must have been examined by a qualified medical practitioner within the last six months and been cleared to use the sauna facilities.
Children aged 14 and over must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times. The parent or legal guardian must sign the waiver and consent form, and proof of age may be required. Children under the age of 14 are not permitted at any time.
Yes — you are welcome at Saunawelt whilst pregnant. Sauna culture is deeply communal, and we want expectant mothers to feel supported and included during this important time. We offer special rates for pregnancy-friendly visits so you can still take part alongside friends and family, recognising you may not be able to use every experience—please contact our reception team for details.
For your safety, the use of any heat-based or cold-based experiences during pregnancy must be approved in advance by your qualified medical practitioner.
Once your baby is born, we also invite new mums to enquire about our New Mama Blessing private event — a nurturing private ritual to honour new mums through warmth, rest, and connection.
AUFGUSS & SAUNA RITUALS
Our Programme Calendar is where you’ll find all scheduled experiences at Saunawelt, including our Weekly Programme (such as Aufguss, infusions, breathwork, women-only sessions, and silent sauna sessions) and our monthly ticketed Special Events. Availability is limited, so we recommend booking in advance or arriving early for popular sessions.
Our Breathwork Sessions are short, guided breathwork recordings (approximately 7–15 minutes) designed to support relaxation, mental clarity, and nervous system reset. Sessions are offered weekly as part of our Weekly Programme and are delivered in collaboration with UK breathwork facilitator Chris Davies. Please check the Programme Calendar for scheduled times.
The Aufguss (German for "infusion") is a traditional, choreographed ceremony led by a Saunameister (“sauna master”). The master dramatically increases humidity and heat by placing essential oil-infused snowballs over the hot stones, then circulates the intensified air using a towel or fan. Set to music, this fully sensory ritual typically lasts 10–15 minutes.
The key difference is in the ceremony and the heat circulation. A standard water infusion (löyly) involves simply pouring oil-infused water onto the hot stones, while Aufguss is a full, master-led ritual that includes the dramatic waving of the towel to direct the superheated, scented air toward the bathers, creating a much more intense and sensory heat experience.
For the best experience, please ensure you are properly hydrated before attending. As the Aufguss is highly intense, it should not be your first heat cycle of the day. We recommend you complete a full thermal cycle beforehand: a milder heat session followed by a proper cool-down and a short rest.
The Aufguss is a truly shared experience, and we encourage you to comfortably fill all available bench space. Once the ceremony begins, please do not enter or re-enter the sauna if you have already exited. Opening the door disrupts the experience and can create a hazard for the Aufgussmeister.
This ritual creates a significantly hotter, more intense environment due to the sudden increase in humidity. Your health and safety are our top priority.
-
Listen to Your Body: Always prioritise your comfort and safety, especially if you are newer to the sauna experience. If you feel dizzy, unwell, or overheated, exit the sauna immediately.
-
Seating: If you are sensitive to heat, please sit on a lower bench or closer to the door, as this provides a milder temperature and easier access to the exit.
-
Communicate with the Master: Do not be afraid to ask the Aufgussmeister for cool air in between rounds. Guests are also encouraged to give the master feedback if they want less air blown toward them (or vice versa!).
-
Essential Oils & Allergies: The Aufgussmeister will present the oils used prior to the ceremony. If you have sensitivities or allergies, please exit beforehand, or be aware of developing a reaction of any kind.
-
No Re-entry Rule: If you exit the sauna for any reason, do not re-enter the ceremony. Returning to the heat immediately without a proper cool-down period can create a health hazard.
-
Cool-down: It is important to fully complete the thermal cycle before entering another heat session. Cool down, rest, and rehydrate.

SAUNAWELT SESSIONS
Saunawelt offers a range of visit options designed for different schedules and preferences, including our Signature Saunawelt Session (2-hour), Morning Mindset / Evening Exhale Sessions (1-hour), Women Wednesday Sauna (2-hour), and Sunday Sauna Reset (Silent Session, 2-hour). All session times are listed on our Programme Calendar, and bookings are made via our app.
Our signature two-hour session is the quintessential sauna house experience—unhurried, immersive, and designed for guests who want time to fully settle into the rhythm of heat, cool, and rest.
These express one-hour sessions are ideal for guests looking for a shorter visit, featuring a unique aromatherapy steam room experience—energising citrus in the morning and the tranquil scent of lavender in the evening.
Rooted in Finnish tradition where women used sauna for childbirth, healing, and social connection, Women Wednesday Sauna is a women-only session created for modern wellbeing, restoration, and community.
Sunday Sauna Reset is a quieter, more reflective session inspired by the Finnish tradition of silent contemplation in the sauna. To maintain a tranquil environment, we ask that conversation is kept subdued and respectful throughout the sauna house.
